Project Overview
The University of Iowa’s new Health Sciences Academic Building sets a new benchmark for transparency and innovation in higher-education design. The six-story, 263,000-square-foot facility brings together multiple academic disciplines—fostering collaboration through bright, open spaces defined by expansive glass façades and daylight-filled interiors.
4G Facade, working in partnership with Forman Ford, supplied the fire-rated curtain wall and interior glass handrail. Vetrotech Design Systems utilizing Contraflam One fire-restive glazing was integrated throughout the exposed atrium, delivering exceptional optical clarity, and tested protection. Laminated glass handrails and guard panels were precisely-fabricated to align seamlessly with the curtain wall framing, maintaining consistent sightlines and a unified architectural rhythm.
Design Highlights
Fire-Rated Transparency: Vetrotech Design Systems enclosed by Contraflam One to surpass design standards.
Precision Integration: Tight tolerances and clean transitions between curtain wall, interior partitions, and railing systems ensure visual continuity and long-term performance.
Collaborative Vision: The design team emphasized daylight, openness, and cross-disciplinary connection—values carried through in every glazing decision.
